In Chapter 16 of The Pilgrim’s Progress, Ignorance reveals he puts a lot of trust in his heart. Christian rebukes him sharing Proverbs 28:26 that says, “He who trusts in his own heart is a fool.”
Ignorance continued to argue that His heart was fine, and as evidence, it comforts him with hopes of heaven and fills him with good thoughts.
Curious to know Christian’s point of view, Ignorance asked what determines good thoughts if trusting your own heart is evil?
Christian Replied:
"There are many kinds of good thoughts, some concerning ourselves, some of God, some of Christ, and some of many other things. What are good thoughts concerning ourselves Those that agree with the Word of God."
Ignorance Asked:
"When do our own thoughts of ourselves agree with the Word of God?"
Christian Replied:
"When we pass the same judgment upon ourselves that the Word of God passes.
Let me explain myself.
The Word of God says of a person in his natural condition, 'There is no one righteous, not even one. Romans 3:10
·Every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. Genesis 6:5
Mans heart is bent always toward evil from his earliest youth. Genesis 8:21
Christian Continued:
"Now, when we agree with these conclusions concerning ourselves, our thoughts are good because they are in agreement with the Word of God."
The point here is not that your feelings are bad. Rather, the emphasis is if you strongly feel led to do, or say something let the Word of God be the basis of your reasoning and actions. There are many people who have impulsively behaved or done things based on how they felt, and it has cost them their peace and salvation. Feelings are not all bad, but they become dangerous when they do not align with the Word of God.
I do not know how your emotions have dictated your mood, but what I can say is this, it is never safe to depend on your feelings as a proof if you are forgiven or accepted. Every time you give control to your emotions, you give them more dominance over your willpower to obey God’s will.

Can you believe it, Ignorance would not submit to this principle, but choice instead to disregard the council of Christian, keep on returning to know what happens to Ignorance in the future Blog.

May our Lord Jesus help us.
