Finding God Again: Step Two-One Last Time

Christian from Pilgrims Progress, when he had reached the gate house of Mr. Good-Will, above it read “Knock, and it shall be opened to you.”

Christian went on to knock until the door was opened. Nowhere was Christian instructed to knock more than once, twice or three times. Yet he kept knocking believing the gate would be open to him.

Persistence is the next step to finding God.

A year ago, I needed my MacBook screen to be repaired, I went to a tech shop up the road from my house but their price too expensive. I then called around hoping to find a cheaper option, but all were the same, after many attempts, I was annoyed and did not think it would be worth calling anyone else.

But there was a number at the bottom of the list I had not yet called. I dialled the number reluctantly to discover their offer was significantly cheaper than everyone else.

When you feel like giving up, pray that one last time.

When you feel like it's not worth it, do it that one last time.

When you feel hopeless, hope that one last time.

When you think there is no way out, look for that one last time.

Edward Bound once wrote, “Too often we get faint-hearted and quit praying at the point where we ought to begin.”

From Isaiah we see an example of what it means to persist,

“And give Him no rest till He establishes And till He makes Jerusalem a praise in the earth.”(Isaiah 62:7)

Isaiah urged the people to give God no rest until Jerusalem was rebuilt. Consistency in asking God showed that their request was not a phase or a passing emotion, but a longing even if meant them dying while praying for it.

By continuing to knock, the gate was open for Christian.

By persistence in prayer, Jerusalem was rebuilt.

What are you tempted to stop praying for?

I think I hear you say, "Myself."

Pray that one last time.
