Slow Down: The Secret to Deeper Prayer

Before I tell you how to deepen your prayer life, I will share a short story and the lesson I learned.
Last year, while I was driving in the countryside, I overtook a slow vehicle. Not long after I looked at my side mirror and, saw the car far in the distance as a dot until it was no more.

In the same way, did you know you can be so close to God, and be out of reach from the devil?
This is all possible when we know how to live a life of communion with God. I must say it is a big jump to live a life of prayer when we do not know the basics of how to talk.
In the quote below, we see one of the greatest issues that hinders the joy of prayer.
“Many, even in their seasons of devotion, fail of receiving the blessing of real communion with God. They are in too great haste. With hurried steps they press through the circle of Christ's loving presence, pausing perhaps a moment within the sacred precincts, but not waiting for counsel. They have no time to remain with the divine Teacher. With their burdens they return to their work.” (Maranatha The Lord Is Coming, April 27)
From the above quote we learn, the reason why many miss blessings is because they rush without giving God a chance to confirm or redirect them.
Ecclesiastes 5:2 confirms this pace we should adopt
“Do not be rash with your mouth and let not your heart utter anything hastily before God. For God is in heaven, and you on earth; Therefore, let your words be few.”
When you take time to talk with God, it helps you to be intentional, whereas when you're hasty you make many requests without counting the cost, the significance of prayer is lost. Promises to satisfy the moment are made. Prayer then becomes is a routine, and not a joy that allows you to escape this world of uncertainty.
It is clear if we desire to deepen our prayer life, we must take our time and not rush.
I have noticed when I am slow and still, I gain a mastery over my mind and have clearer discernment of God's will.
Take time today to apply this principle in your prayer, do not rush, be still, slow down and wait until you hear God's voice.
