When Weakness Attracts Attack

Today I arrived at work to find almost every plant leaf was chewed by insects, I asked my coworker what the matter was. He told me there was an infestation of bugs. Although not every plant was eaten, the insects were selective.

I asked him, “How do insects know which plant is healthy or weak?”

He explained before a plant is weak, there are factors that trigger its condition first being poor soil, drought, lack of sunlight or excessive water. This causes discomfort to the plant, and it reacts by releasing chemical scent that indicate to insects that they are in distress. A healthy plant, on the other hand, has a tough cell wall that acts like a shelter and can release chemicals to defend itself. Weak plants attract insects to themselves, since they are easier to digest and have less resistance.

I thought to myself then, what object lesson could I make from this?

The text, 1 Peter 5:8 came to mind,

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”

When we pay close attention to the verse, we learn the devil is walking around and is selectively seeking whom he may devour. The devil is not gong after every christian except those who are careless and not awake. If I can help you understand, such souls pay no attention to their spiritual state, and think they have enough time, to later change their atmosphere that is hindering their spiritual growth. Such professed Christian's think they have enough time to get serious later. But do not know, the devil has already prepared them to be on his dessert table.

It is possible that you may have taken the step to change but feel the dogs of hell are after you. At every step you take, your past sins are calling you back as the Egyptian pursued the Israelite, however loud the enemy is calling you.

The scripture says, in

James 4:7, “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Submit yourself to God and the devil will run away.

Commit yourself to engaging in matters that deepen your connection with Jesus, and he will flee. Commit to doing whatever draws you closer to Jesus, and the devil will not dare follow you, if the cares about his life. Commit to live like Jesus and His bright character will shine and repel the kingdom of darkness.
