Jesus The Cornerstone

In 1 Kings 6:7, when Solomon’s Temple was being built, there was no noise of hammer or axe heard. This was because all the stones were prepared away before they arrived at the Temple. Such was the reverence upheld in God’s house by the Jebusite, a non-Jew tribe, who build the house of prayer. Their reverence shows the level of respect we ought to possess in the house of God.

In Matthew 21:42 Jesus asked?

“Have you never read in the Scriptures: “’The stone the builders rejected has become the cornerstone?”

A cornerstone is the main stone of a building, joining two walls together and bearing great weight.

Jesus referred to Himself as the cornerstone that has been rejected.

When Solomon’s Temple was under construction, the workers cut an unusual stone but did not know where to place it. For a while they left it aside, but was in the way.

When the builders needed to lay a stone on the corner, they searched and searched, but could not find a suitable stone, not only one that would fit, but one strong enough to bear great weight, and endure the heat of the sun, the cold nights and heavy rain. This was the criteria for the stone they were looking for.

“But at last attention was called to the stone so long rejected. It had been exposed to the air, to sun and storm, without revealing the slightest crack. The builders examined this stone. It had borne every test but one. If it could bear the test of severe pressure, they decided to accept it for the cornerstone. The trial was made. The stone was accepted, brought to its assigned position, and found to be an exact fit.” Desire Of Ages 597.5

In Isaiah 28:16 we read,

“Therefore, thus says the Lord GOD: “Behold, I lay in Zion a stone for a foundation, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone, a sure foundation; Whoever believes will not act hastily.”

Jesus is the precious cornerstone who is a foundation for anyone whose life is crumbling. Many believers who have gone to him with their sorrows have found sympathy, acceptance and support in Him.

Therefore, throw yourself upon Him. If He should fail to uphold you, then down we all go, but if He uphold you, I would not be surprised, I once thought as well I was too heavy for him.

Lean on him, and do not keep rethinking your sins. Lean onto Him, and tell others, how precious a Lord He is.
