The Voices in the Valley

There are many voices in the Valley of the shadow of death.

Some of the voices say, “You have rejected the invitation of God for a while, do you think you can now easily walk away from the devils hands?”

Other voices say, “You have been unwell and will die before your time.”

The worst of them is, “You have never had a successful relationship with God that lasted for a month. Who are you trying to fool? Yourself, I thought so.”

These troublesome thoughts are a sign of an unsettled mind. Moreover, these dark draining thoughts are truly but lies, that have ended the journey of many people full of potential, immediately after they took their first step to Jesus.

Why does overcoming matter?

I saw a video of a snake that slithered over a cutting saw. The snake thinking it was an enemy, it struck it and began to wrap its body tightly around the saw, until the blades of the saw cut it into pieces.

The foolish snake used all its energy to constrict the saw that it thought was retaliating and lost its life in the process.

Many people are grappling with issues that are like the sharp saw, that will soon sever their connection with God and kill them as it did to the snake.

What can you do when dark thoughts seem to deafen you to God’s voice?

Book of Isaiah 26:3

You will keep him in perfect peace,

Whose mind is stayed on You,

Because he trusts in You.”

The promise is if we keep our minds on God, He will give us peace. Pay attention to the text, it sets out a condition to receive a peaceful mind, we must be constantly, not occasionally or sometimes but continually be thinking of Him. This, therefore, calls us to let go, and let God inspire us with elevating thoughts.

When we keep our minds on God, He will adjusts our eyes to see the smallness of what we thought was something, but was all along nothing.

This peace is not attained immediately, but it is gradual. Be soft on yourself when it feels like you cannot master your thoughts, but as you keep dedictaing your thoughts heavenward, sufficient grace and strength will be given to you from Him who does not lie.
