He Will Not Leave You

Unbeknown to Christian and Pliable, on their way to the Celestial city, they fell into a swamp of mud. Immediately Christian began to sink under the weight of his burden. With much desperate effort, Pliable managed to get out but he said to Christian,

“Is this the happiness you have told me about all this time? If we have such terrible misfortune here at the beginning, what are we to expect between here and the end of our journey.”

Before Christian could sink completely, a man by the name of Help appeared, and pulled him out.

Evangelist told Christian, had he paid attention, there were stepping stone he could have used to cross. However, at times those steps can be covered by mud and barely seen.

The mud is a representation of the fears, doubt, guilt, discouragement and anxiety that accumulate in the heart of man. The visibility of the stones is in proportion to our faith. Therefore, if Christian’s mind had been thinking of God’s forgiveness and acceptance; the word would have been his stepping stone to cross.

Unlike us, the scripture says,

God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?” Numbers 23:19

In 1 Samuel 13:14, David was chosen King because God saw He sought his ways, but more than that, David knew the heart of God also. After His sin with Bath-Sheba, peace evaporated and had the thoughts of sin repeating over and over in his mind. At last, he pleaded that God would change him, so that he could teach others of the unchanging compassion of God.

Although in prayer He does not feel the change he wants, David concluded saying,

“The sacrificing of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” Psalm 51:17

David, who knew the heart of God understood, God would eventually come through. This verse was David's stepping stone to endure an unbearable season in his life.

Now therefore, just as David was confident that God will not despise Him, He neither will leave you in your despair.
